takes second in Star GAM Trophy Dash
VENTURA, CA- 18 year old Jessica Clark accumulate second best finish
in the Star Grand American Modified Series at Stockton 99 Speedway
in Saturday night's twin 40 lap features. The Ron Sutton's Winner's
Circle development driver proceeds to produce results in her rookie
season in the Modifieds.
This is Clarks third year in the Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle
program, which develops drivers for a career in motorsports after an
extensive application and tryout process. Clark joined the program
in 2010 where she raced in the USAC Focus Midget Series then headed
into 2011 with double duty of the USAC Midgets as well as getting
her toes wet in a full size stock car the Super Late Models. Last
year Jessica became the first female to collect two USAC
Clark proceeded into Saturday night's features
running both the NASCAR Whelen All American Modifieds and the Star
Grand American Modified series.
The Star GAM series is a series within a series program that allows
older Modifieds to compete within the Whelen series and be
competitive in the Star GAM series with its own points and payouts.
Drivers who compete in the Star GAM series are entered in two
separate points systems as well as payouts. The rookie qualified
seventh fastest with a time of 14.740 seconds barely bumping her
teammate Nik Romano for sixth by .001 seconds.
Clark was set to run the Star Grand
American Modifieds Trophy Dash and she took the early lead. However,
her competitor was able to edge her out on the second lap and Clark
finished second in her first ever Modified trophy dash.
invert of eight was spun for the first 40 lap feature of the night
setting Clark in the off pole position for the start of the race.
The pole sitter lost his motor before the start of the green flag
which moved Clark's teammate Nik into the pole position with two
RSWC drivers starting side by side. As the two teammates led the
field to the green flag, Romano jumped to an early lead over Clark.
On lap four, a caution was thrown and the Clark was set to restart
next to Romano again. On the restart, Romano took the lead as Clark
would tuck in behind him. On lap eight, Clark got spun in turn three
which set her back to the 10th position. By lap 18, Clark had moved
into the ninth position and ran consistent laps. On the last lap,
Clark made a pass for the eighth spot on a fellow competitor making
this finish her second best Star GAM finish in second.
Heading into the second main event, Clark was set to start pole with
an invert of eight. On the start of the race Clark got spun in turns
one and two which caused damages and ended her night short.
"With each race we are making great progress. I qualified well
enough to be in the trophy dash and placed second which boosted my
confidence even more. The invert for the main events worked in my
favor and gave me the opportunity to start on the front row twice!
My starts were quite good and I think I have the ability to run up
front. I am also learning to stand my ground with other drivers and
am gaining their respect," stated Jessica Clark.
Clark's next race is scheduled for June
30th at Stockton 99 Speedway for round two of the Tri Holiday
